THE
RIOT
PARTY

The Transgender District’s annual Riot Party brings the LGBTQ community together to celebrate the riot that redefined the history of freedom and rights for queer and transgender people in San Francisco.

The Riot Party commemorates the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot of 1966, an uprising of transgender and queer people against police oppression. Hosted at the end of August every year, the party also closes out Transgender History Month.

All proceeds go towards supporting the Transgender District’s mission to stabilize and economically empower the transgender community through ownership of homes, business, historical and cultural sites, and safe community spaces. As the first legally recognized cultural district of its kind, the Transgender District empowers and creates safe spaces where the transgender and gender-expansive community can lead authentic lives.
