Breonna McCree
Breonna McCree (she/her) is a potent advocate for social justice, boasting more than twenty years of committed experience in furthering the cause for the broader transgender community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Acknowledged as the prior Director of Community Engagement at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health, University of California San Francisco, she spearheaded initiatives in transgender empowerment, behavioral interventions, and HIV prevention. McCree made substantial contributions to organizations such as Walden House Recovery Services, TARC, Public Health Institute, and UCSF.
Her steadfast commitment to transgender empowerment earned her recognition as a 2023 Grand Marshal by San Francisco Pride, supported by accolades from Mayor London Breed, Senator Scott Wiener, and the Bayard Rustin Coalition.
As Co-Executive Director of the Transgender District, McCree focuses on fostering collaboration, establishing impactful partnerships, and developing programs that resonate with the diverse transgender community in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
Her goal is to economically empower and stabilize transgender individuals through ownership of businesses, homes, historic sites, and community space. Envisioning an inclusive, oppression-free world where transgender and gender-diverse communities flourish, McCree’s proactive and innovative strategies exemplify her dedication to pioneering advancements in transgender health and empowerment.
Carlo Gómez Arteaga
Carlo Gómez Arteaga (he/him) is an experienced organizer, advocate, fundraiser, and trainer with nearly 30 years of experience focused on youth and LGBTQIA+ equity, and immigrant rights. Currently, the Co-Executive Director for Transgender District in San Francisco, he supports the organization to create an urban environment that fosters the rich history, culture, legacy, and empowerment of transgender people and their deep roots in the southeastern Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco.
Carlo is the co-founder of many groups including People United for the Legalization of Students (PULS 2001-2007) who advocated for opening pathways for legal immigration status for youth and students. The first Spanish / bilingual language support group for Latine transmen and non-binary members called Grupo de Apoyo Fénix (2019-2024). This was a partnership between the Pacific Center for Human Growth in Berkeley and Somos Familia in Oakland, CA. And most recently they are the co-founder and advisory board member of Trans Luchadores an organization that began in 2024 and builds the power of Latine trans masculine individuals across California by enhancing visibility, leadership, and access.
Previous to this position Carlo directed an anti-poverty statewide campaign and coordinated donor development with the Dolores Huerta Foundation. The Foundation’s work focuses on Civic Engagement, Education Equity, Health, and Safety, and LGBTQIA+ Equality.
Carlo has a B.A. in Political Science & Spanish from DePaul University, studied Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, and holds certifications in a number of areas including grassroots fundraising, peer counseling, group facilitation, youth development, harm reduction, and family & community engagement practices. Carlo was a New Voices Fellow focused on national immigration policy funded nationally by the Ford Foundation. Carlo was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Currently residing in West Oakland, California.
