This August, San Francisco proudly celebrates Transgender History Month, a time to honor the resilience, leadership, and legacy of trans pioneers who shaped our city, from the 1966 Compton's Cafeteria Riot to today's transformative movement.
FOUNDED BY @jupiterperaza In 2021, thanks to the tireless advocacy of Jupiter Peraza, San Francisco's visionary trans leader and our Board of Director at Center for Immigrant Protection @parivarbayarea @Igbtasylumproject and powerhouse activist, San Francisco became the first U.S. city to officially recognize Transgender History Month. In 2024, that recognition expanded statewide across California. Her leadership centers equity, sanctuary, and civic power for those too often left behind.
As a history making organization in San Francisco and in this country as the first SouthAsian Trans Hijrah Kinnar Led organization focussed on Global South Transgender Intersectional Unity and Immigrant Justice, visioned and uplifted by @anjalirimi
And @Igbtasylumproject as the only San Francisco organization providing pro bono transgender defensive asylum services for over a decade by dedicated legal experts from the community. We are part of history.
"The lives of transgender immigrants are at risk, and we must be protected." - Jupiter Peraza
